SEOUL, Aug. 6 (Yonhap) -- Director Lee Chang-dong's new film "Possible Love" has been invited to the Main Slate section of the 64th New York Film Festival, Netflix said Thursday.

The New York Film Festival is one of the United States' most prestigious film festivals. Its Main Slate section showcases bold and original works by acclaimed master filmmakers and emerging talents. Previous South Korean films featured in the section include "Parasite" (2019) by Bong Joon-ho, "Decision to Leave" (2022) and "No Other Choice" (2025) by Park Chan-wook.

It marks Lee's fourth invitation to the Main Slate, following "Secret Sunshine" (2007), "Poetry" (2010) and "Burning" (2018). This year's festival will run from Sept. 25 to Oct. 12.

Dennis Lim, artistic director of the New York Film Festival, described Possible Love as "the richest and most expansive work in Lee Chang-dong's filmography," saying it encompasses "nearly every force that shapes our lives -- labor, class, capital, art, desire and family." He added that the film confronts the realities of the present while resonating beyond its time.

Possible Love follows two married couples who confront hidden desires after meeting through the production of a documentary. Sol Kyung-gu and Jeon Do-yeon play laid-off worker Ho-seok and his wife Mi-ok, while Cho Yeo-jeong and Zo In-sung portray documentary director Ye-ji and her husband Sang-woo.

The film is Lee's first feature in eight years since Burning and was produced by Netflix.

It will have its world premiere in the competition section of the 83rd Venice International Film Festival next month. The film is scheduled to open in South Korean theaters on Sept. 23 before premiering globally on Netflix on Nov. 6.
