GANGNEUNG, South Korea, Sept. 29 (Yonhap) -- Gangneung City has selected Wolhwa Street as its recommended travel destination for October as part of its "2026-2027 Visit Gangneung Year," the city government said Monday.
The theme for this month's recommendation is "Walk through autumn and savor Gangneung's flavors with every step."
Wolhwa Street is an urban tourism area developed along a former railway line stretching from Gangneung Station through downtown to the Namdaecheon River.
A walking trail and various cultural spaces have been built on the former railway tracks, making the area a major attraction in downtown Gangneung.

Visitors can take a leisurely walk along spaces inspired by the story of "Wolhwa" and enjoy views of the city.
The area around Wolhwa Street, which connects to the Central Market and surrounding alleys, offers a variety of foods, from popular market snacks to local specialties such as jang-kalguksu, a noodle soup with a spicy soybean paste-based broth, and potato ongshimi dumplings. The combination of walking and dining makes it an ideal destination for a culinary trip.
In particular, the area will host the "2026 Gangneung Noodle Festival" from Oct. 15-18.
Visitors will be able to sample various noodle dishes from Gangneung and other noodle specialties, along with a variety of food and hands-on activities.
The culinary journey that begins around Wolhwa Street can continue to Chodang Sundubu Village, Ongshimi Village and Anmok Coffee Street.
Following the noodle festival, the 18th Gangneung Coffee Festival will be held from Oct. 21-25 at Gangneung Coffee Street and other locations throughout the city.

From a bowl of noodles to a fragrant cup of coffee, visitors can enjoy Gangneung's signature flavors and aromas through festivals and travel.
Bae Gwang-sik, head of the city's tourism policy division, said October is a particularly good time to explore Gangneung's diverse local flavors around Wolhwa Street and experience both the noodle and coffee festivals.
"We hope visitors will take a leisurely walk through autumn and slowly savor Gangneung's unique flavors and charm," he said.
