SEOUL, Oct. 6 (Yonhap) -- The city of Jeonju, North Jeolla Province, said Tuesday it will hold the 2026 Jeonju Makgeolli Festival at the main stadium of Jeonju Vision College from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. on Oct. 23-24.
Launched in 2024, the festival is celebrating its third edition this year and has established itself as a major autumn food and culture festival, attracting more than 20,000 visitors last year.
Held under the slogan "Get Tipsy on Jeonju Makgeolli Under the Autumn Moonlight!", the festival will feature 19 businesses, including seven major establishments from the Samcheon-dong makgeolli alley, four local breweries and eight restaurants specializing in side dishes.
The festival will offer a variety of programs, including tastings and sales of Jeonju makgeolli, busking performances and hands-on activities for visitors.
The city plans to ensure that the festival leads to the revitalization of the Samcheon-dong makgeolli alley and surrounding local businesses rather than remaining a one-off event.
Jeong Seung-won, head of the city's division for people's livelihoods and social economy, said, "I hope visitors enjoy makgeolli and performances on an autumn night while experiencing Jeonju's unique makgeolli culture." He added, "We will prioritize safety and substance to make the festival a source of tangible vitality for local businesses."
