SEOUL, Nov. 4 (Yonhap) -- K-pop supergroup BTS has become the first K-pop act to receive platinum certification from Italy's music industry association, BigHit Music said Wednesday.

The group received the certification from the Federation of the Italian Music Industry (FIMI) on Monday (local time) for its fifth full-length album, "Arirang," released in March.

The platinum certification is awarded to albums that reach 50,000 units in combined sales, with physical album sales, digital downloads and streaming figures converted into equivalent units.

BTS previously earned gold certifications from FIMI for five albums: "Love Yourself: Answer," "Map of the Soul: Persona," "Map of the Soul: 7," "BE" and "Proof."

The group will kick off the Southeast Asian leg of its "Arirang" world tour in Kaohsiung, Taiwan, this month, followed by Bangkok in December, as well as Kuala Lumpur, Singapore and Jakarta. The tour will feature a total of 15 shows across the five cities.
