SEOUL, Nov. 4 (Yonhap) -- The South Korean won slightly weakened against the U.S. dollar Wednesday, as Democrats were projected to win back control of both congressional chambers in midterm elections.
The won was quoted at 1,341.5 won per dollar at 3:30 p.m., down 0.5 won from the close of the previous stock trading session.
In a stunning rebuke to U.S. President Donald Trump, Democrats secured majorities in both the U.S. Senate and House of Representatives, according to projections by U.S. media outlets.
Some traders expected the Democratic win to set the stage for a legislative standstill during the final two years of Trump's term.
Foreign investors sold a net 2.5 trillion won (US$1.8 billion) worth of local shares during the latest regular stock trading session, with the benchmark Korea Composite Stock Price Index rising 0.62 percent to close at 5,683.80.
