SEOUL, Oct. 2 (Yonhap) -- Toll fees on all expressways nationwide will be waived during the Chuseok holiday period from Oct. 4-7, according to the transport ministry.

The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport said the measure was approved at the 43rd Cabinet meeting earlier in the day as part of the government’s holiday policy to ease the financial burden on the public and ensure safe and convenient travel.

The exemption will apply to all vehicles entering expressways between midnight Oct. 4 and midnight Oct. 7. Vehicles that enter before or exit after the period will also be exempt, such as those entering on Oct. 3 and leaving on Oct. 4 or entering on Oct. 7 and leaving on Oct. 8.

For vehicles using the Hi-Pass electronic toll system, the device will display the message “Toll fee 0 won has been processed” when passing through tollgates. Drivers using manual lanes should take a ticket at the entry tollgate and hand it in upon exit to receive the exemption.

The ministry said the measure is part of broader efforts to support stable living conditions during the holiday by reducing travel costs and facilitating smooth traffic flow for those returning home for family gatherings.
