SEOUL, Oct. 7 (Yonhap) -- The soaring popularity of the K-pop-themed animation “K-pop Demon Hunters,” also known as “Kedeheon,” has led to a sharp increase in foreign visitors to Namsan YTN Seoul Tower, one of Seoul’s top tourist landmarks.
According to YTN on Monday, the number of foreign tourists who visited the YTN Seoul Tower observatory in September reached 79,200, marking a 50.6 percent rise from 52,600 during the same month last year. It was also the highest monthly figure for foreign visitors from 2024 to September this year.
YTN attributed the surge in visitors to the global success of “K-pop Demon Hunters.”
The animation follows the K-pop idol group Huntrix as they battle evil spirits to save the world, featuring several Seoul landmarks such as the YTN Seoul Tower. In the show, the boy group Lion Boys performs its final concert there, while Huntrix defeats the demon leader Guima at the same location — scenes that have sparked interest among international fans, with many expressing their desire to visit Namsan on social media.
Released worldwide on Netflix on June 20, “K-pop Demon Hunters” quickly became one of the platform’s most-watched titles, gaining immense popularity across multiple countries.
“Since YTN Seoul Tower was featured as a key backdrop in the show’s climax, it has attracted global attention,” an official from YTN said. “We plan to introduce new programs and upgrade content to enhance visitors’ experience and enjoyment.”
