‘Decision to Leave’ makes running in Asian Film Awards nominations

SEOUL, Jan. 7 (Yonhap) – South Korean director Park Chan-wook’s romance suspense film “Decision to Leave” is leading the nominations for this year’s Asian Film Award (AFA) by collecting 10 nominations.

Director Park’s Cannes-winning film has been nominated for 10 different categories, including Best Film, Best Director, and Best Actor/Actresses, according to the Busan Film Festival (BIFF).

IU, who acted as So-young in Korean-Japanese collaborative film “Broker” directed by Hirokazu Koreeda, also made the shortlist for the Best Actress award, along with Director Koreeda for the Best Director. Im Si-wan and Kim So-jin, both acted in the South Korean thriller action movie “Emergency Declaration,” were nominated for the Best Supporting Actor/Actress category.

Following with 8 nominations is Hamaguchi Ryusuke’s “Drive My Car,” along with a French-German-Belgian co-produced film “Return to Seoul” and “Ponniyin Selvan: Part One,” an Indian Tamil-language epic historical film directed by Mani Ratnam making the shortlist for 6 categories.

The Asian Film Awards, presented by the Asian Film Awards Academy that was founded by the 3 major Asian film festivals – Busan, Hong Kong, and Tokyo –, is an award ceremony that is held annually to recognize the excellence of film professionals in the Asian industry.

The 16th AFA will be held on Mar. 12 in Hong Kong. 7 professionals, with Director Zhang Yimou as the president, served as this year’s juries.
