SEOUL, August 30 (Yonhap) -- The Cultural Regeneration Project, transforming the old tobacco leaf warehouse inside the old tobacco factory in Naedeok-dong, Changwon-gu, Cheongju-si, into a cultural and art space, will be finished in October.
According to Cheongju City on Tuesday, the remodeling process to create "building number 37" in the Dongbu Warehouse as a "Dream Art Site" has entered the final stage.
This business cost 2.1 billion won, 800 million won from the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism "2020 business for Culture, Art Education space," 800 million won from Cheongju City and more. "Dream Art Site" is a private art space for infants and children.
When this project completes, the Cheongju Cultural Industry Promotion Foundation will be holding programs such as art workshops with artists, art education linked to schools, art camps, and art salons.
The Dongbu Warehouse is composed of 7 buildings with a total area of about 970 to 1,380 square meters.
The buildings have had their identification numbers used since long ago, with the numbers "building number 5," "building number 8," "building number 34," "building number 35," "building number 37," and "building number 38."
The warehouse has been neglected for 10 years since the tobacco factory was closed, and since the Cultural Regeneration Program started in 2014, the place has been transformed as an art space.
The other six buildings, excluding building number 37, have already been transformed into Complex Cultural Space Cafe "C," Living Culture Activity Space, event hall, and youth creative art space.
It has cost 15.6 billion won for the Cultural Regeneration Program, transforming seven buildings, including building number 37.
