SEOUL, Feb. 9 (Yonhap) -- The Korean creative musical “Xcallibur” will be meeting Japanese audiences with a performance by the Takarazuka Revue, a 110-year-old Japanese all-female musical theatre troupe based in Japan.

The Japanese production of “Xcalibur” will be staged at the Tokyo Tatemono Brillia Hall from Jul. 23 to Aug. 5, the performance production company EMK Musical Company confirmed Thursday.

The musical will be the first Korean creative musical work that the Japanese troupe will be recreating on stage. Takarazuka Revue was formed in 1913 in the city of Takarazuka, which is well-known for its hot springs, in order to attract more tourists.

The troupe, which touts a long history, is composed solely of female actors who play all roles, including those of males, in lavish, Broadway-style productions of Western-style musicals. They are loved for their original recreations of stories adapted from films, novels, manga series, and Japanese folktales. Former performers include the pre-eminent Japanese actress Yuki Amami.

In the upcoming “Xcalibur” performance, actresses Serika Toa and Haruno Sakura will be performing the lead roles, and director Daichi Inaba will be in charge of delivering.

Set in medieval England, “Xcalibur,” which was first staged in 2019 by the American composer Frank Wildhorn, tells the story of Arthur, a young man who was destined to be enthroned, and his journey with the magical sword, Excalibur.
