'Hot Blooded' tops box office over weekend

SEOUL, Mar. 28 (Yonhap) – S. Korean novelist Cheon Myeong-kwan’s debut film “Hot Blooded” topped the latest box office during the weekend.

According to the data from the Korean Film Council(KOFIC) on Mar. 28, “Hot Blooded,” which attracted 156,000 people(44.8% of sales) for the past three days on the weekend(Mar. 25 to 27), ranked No. 1 on the box office. The film reached 218,000 cumulative viewers since its release on Mar. 23.

Based on the novel of a fellow writer Kim Un-su, “Hot Blooded” depicts the gangster war in the 1990s in Kuam, a small port town outside Busan.

“In Our Prime” starring Choi Min-sik maintained the second place following last week. It recorded 470,000 cumulative audiences since its release on Mar. 9.

The Japanese animation "Jujutsu Kaisen 0" ranked No. 3 with 33,000(9.0%) viewers, two steps higher from the previous week, while "The Batman" ranked No. 4 with 32,000(9.4%) audiences.

The disaster movie "Moonfall," which topped the box office last week, fell to No. 5, while "Spencer" came in No. 6. The Academy nominations “Belfast” and “King Richard,” which were recently released, each ranked seventh and ninth.

It was found that 352,000 people visited the theater last weekend, which was slightly higher than the previous week(343,000 people), the lowest record of this year.
