Musical ‘Along with the Gods: The Underworld’ to return to stage in Seoul Arts Center in four years

SEOUL, Mar. 17 (Yonhap) -- The Seoul Arts Center Troupe’s creative musical “Along with the Gods: The Underworld,” based on South Korean illustrator Joo Ho-min’s webtoon of the same name, will return to the theater stage in five years.

The troupe will bring the musical “Along with the Gods: Underworld” up on the stage at CJ Towol Theater at Seoul Arts Center from Apr. 15 to 30. The upcoming musical will be a stage adaptation of Joo’s webtoon of the same name, which was also adapted into a film. The fantasy action musical follows the story of an ordinary citizen Kim Ja-hong who died in an accident and then meets Jin Ki-han, his underworld guardian who escorts and defends him in seven trials.

This musical adaptation was widely loved for incorporating a huge circular stage and catchy background music. Since its premiere in 2015, the musical has been staged in 2017 and 2018, and it will return to the stage for the fourth time in 2023.

Actor Yoon Tae-ho has been slated to appear as Kim Ja-hong, while Kwong Sung-chan will take the stage as Jin Ki-han. In the meantime, Lee Dong-gyu will appear as Gang-rim, the leader of the three guardians from the underworld, and Seo Yeong-jung will play the role of Deok-choon, the youngest of the three guardians.

Prior to the fourth performance, illustrator Joo said, “It took a while for the musical to return with its fourth performance due to the global COVID-19 pandemic,” adding, “I will never be able to forget the thrilling moment when the subway came up from under the stage during the first performance. I hope more will be able to share this enthralling experience.”
