SEOUL, June 5 (Yonhap) -- The SBS drama “Why Her?,” starring Seo Hyun-jin, started out ahead of the ratings of the MBC drama “Doctor lawyer,” starring So Ji-sub, which was released on the same day.

According to Nielsen Korea, a ratings research company on the 4th, the rating of “Why Her?,” which was first aired at 10 p.m. the day before was 6% while “Doctor Lawyer,” followed closely behind with 5.2%.

In the first episode of “Why Her?,” Oh Su-jae (Seo Hyun-jin), who won the title of the first female lawyer CEO at TK Law firm, is forced to become a professor at Seojung University Law School.

Oh Su-jae is seen taking on the case of her secret lover, and meets Park So-young (Hong Ji-yoon), a victim who claims was sexually assaulted by Oh Su-jae's secret lover, and accuses her of lying.

That night, Oh Su-jae sees Park So-young jumping from the roof as soon as she left the office building, making the public think that the victim made an extreme choice because of her.

Oh Su-jae, who fell rock bottom in an instant, was pushed out of her current position as a law school lecturer and met Gong-chan (Hwang In-yeop), whom she has history with, as a student, and anticipated the audience for what was going to happen next.

Seo Hyun-jin transformed into a strong woman who only sees success and had the audience immerse with her spectacular acting. Her scene where she recalled her past in the rain especially stood out with her emotions being portrayed very well.

On the other hand, “Doctor Lawyer,” which was first aired at 9:50 p.m. on the same day, told the story of Ha Yi-han (So Ji-sib), a genius cardiothoracic surgeon at Banseok Hospital.

Han Yi-han, who was widely recognized for his skills was even called the “monster knife,” and had successfully completed a heart transplant for her lover Guem Seok-yeong’s (Im Soo-hyang) younger brother.

That night, Han Yi-han receives a call from the hospital director, Gu Jin-gi (Lee Kyeong-yeong) and is seen running to an unknown patient waiting for a heart transplant. Han Yi-han asks Gu Jin-gi who’s heart the patient will be getting, arousing the curiosity of the viewers.

The first episode of “Doctor Lawyer” had a large proportion of surgical scenes with medical terms including valve leaflets (fluttering parts of heart valves) or paravalvular leak (leaks around implanted valves) were rampant, but due to the actors’ acting, the scene were all evaluated to be natural.

In particular, So Ji-sub, who returned to the small screen after 4 years, drew attention with his calm and delicate acting.

However, there were also reactions that said that the atmosphere of the drama is rather dark as the color of the screen and the background music is dark.
