SEOUL, July 20 (Yonhap) -- Jeongeup City, North Jeolla province announced on Wednesday that Okjeongho Gujeolcho Theme Park in Sannae-myeon was registered as the No.1 local garden in the North Jeolla province.
A local garden is a garden created by the local government, and must meet the conditions of having at least 40% of the 10㏊ land being grass.
With local gardens being made by the local government, if it meets the conditions, and has parking lots, separated departments, convenience facilities, and more, the mayor or the governor can designate and register it.
Okjeongho Gujeolcho Theme Park is a park filled with autumn wildflowers, Gujeolcho, in the mountains near Mangyeongdae, Sannae-myeon, upstream of Okjeongho Lake.
On autumn, the entire forest is covered with Gujeolcho, making it famous as a photography spot and a tourist attraction.
The total area registered as a local garden is 387,817 square meters.
It boasts the largest area among the four nationally registered local gardens and the 23 local gardens currently under construction.
Every year, the "Gujeolcho Flower Festival" is held here, attracting more than 500,000 visitors annually.
"We will strengthen the content based on the beautiful natural scenery and develop the Gujeolcho local garden into the best garden in the country," said Mayor Lee Hak-soo.
