SEOUL, August 22 (Yonhap) -- MBC “Riverside Song festival New Challenge,” which worked as a gateway for 1980s-1990s rookie singers, is returning after 21 years.
MBC announced on Tuesday “Riverside Song Festival New Challenge” will be held in Ganhyeon recreation area on Sept. 3.
“Riverside Song festival,” first held in 1978, brought countless hit songs and stars, but some criticized that its original function of discovering new songs and rookies disappeared. The event ended in 2001 as its popularity decreased.
Although “Riverside Song festival” was held last Nov., previous winners and singers recreated old stages with no competition.
1,2000 applicants applied for this year’s “Riverside Song Festival New Challenge,” which will be held in audition format in 21 years, and 12 teams made it through the first, second, and third preliminary rounds.
Teams who made the finals include Gam-sung-gol-mok, Goo-man, Sound hills, Oh-boot, Oh-hellen, On-do, Crack-berry, Free-han, Han-ri-ee, and New evo (Literal translations)
Judges are Kim Jong-jin, Kim Hyun-cheol, Park Sun-zoo, Yoon ll-sang, and Lee Seok Hoon.
Entertainers HaHa and announcer Jung Dahee will host the event, and The Boyz, WJSN, Paul Kim, Lee So-jung will perform for the congratulatory performances.
Final performance will be aired live at Music and Entertainment channel MBC M.
