This photo taken Oct. 26, 2021, shows a crimson field of salicornia and East Asian seepweed, both yearly plants that grow in tidal wetlands, at a botanical garden on Jeung Island in Sinan, a town in South Korea's southwestern province of South Jeolla. Most salicornia, called "hamcho" in Korean, are green but their foliage turns red in autumn, while the flowers of East Asian seepweed, known as "chilmyeoncho" in Korean, get tinged with purple after coming into bloom in August and September.
