Pilot show 'Staff Only' by producer of 'Unanswered Questions'

SEOUL January 3 (Yonhap) -- Pilot series of the South Korean TV program “Staff Only,” by producer Lee Dong-won known for his show “Unanswered Questions” will premiere.

“Staff Only,” was originally produced by current affairs team, however it can be generally accepted by the audience as an entertainment show. Producer of Radio Star Kim Tae-hee participated in the creation, and Kim Jong-kook, comedian Yang Se-Hyung, actor Lee Yi-kyung will participate as hosts of the show.

Throughout the press conference of the show “Staff Only” Lee Dong-won producer addressed “Throughout my days as a producer of ‘Unanswered Questions,’ I have heard a lot of sad stories of those who were effected by the incident, therefore I took a deep dive into the case to help out with the case,” adding “When I was given an opportunity to create a new program I wanted to come up with something that will cheer those who are in a sticky situation or in a harsh condition of living.”

Moreover producer Lee stated “I thought what would it be like to be in a place where you are not allowed, and wanted to visit the place and engage in a conversation where they can inform viewers with what its like to be there,” adding “I have been in charge of such a grim and heavy program, therefore I want the audience to watch our upcoming show in much lighter manner, that is why I contacted a writer who participated in a variety shows.”

The high light video revealed throughout the press conference showcased members of the hosts making jokes and having fun. Throughout the episode, members Kim Jong-kook and Yang Se-hyung participated in a procedure of getting enlisted in the incarceration unit at Seoul Southern Detention Center.

The pilot episode included a detailed depiction of the procedure where they pat down everyone’s body clean for any hidden materials.

Producer Lee addressed “I thought I had accumulated decent amount of information regarding the detention center throughout my years with ‘Unanswered Questions,’ however the actual process was very different, so it came to me as a shock,” adding “I also wanted to portray the hard work people working at the scene are putting in to keep our society safe.”

Continuing on Lee Dong-won addressed “Prison guards are emotionally effected by prejudice image set by the miss portrayal of their image throughout movies,” adding “In order for anyone to know how much effort they are putting in, one needs to follow through the actual process and understand how much work gets put into during the process.”

When asked of the similarity between tvN’s “You Quiz on the Block” producer Lee Dong-won put the emphasis on the realistic atmosphere of the nature sent off by actually filming at the spot.

Producer Lee continued on by stating “We are introduced to one’s job through a story, however we have managed to collaborate with the entire organization to film the show, and that is what I consider to be the biggest difference among other programs,” adding “Hosts of the show will walk around the unit and listen to stories of those who are at the detention unit.”

The program is planned out to feature 3 episodes, where the hosts will visit Incheon International airport in their second episode and the third episode is not yet to be addressed.
