SEOUL, July 18 (Yonhap) --55 ancient documents related to Jeong Eon-seop, who reconstructed Dongnaeeupseong Fortress Site while serving as a Dongnae governor in the late Joseon Dynasty, returned to Busan after 290 years.

The Busan Museum announced on Monday that it received a donation of 55 documents related to Jeong Eon-seop and his family from Jeong Han-sik (70), the ninth-generation descendant of Jeong Eon-seop.

From 1730 to 1733, Jeong Eon-seop served as a Dongnae governor and reconstructed Dongnaeeupseong Fortress Site, which had been neglected for 140 years after the Imjin War, also known as the Japanese invasions of Korea.

He was trusted by King Yeongjo of Joseon for these achievements, and later served as a Chungcheong-do governor, Byeongjo (Ministry of defence), Hojo (Ministry of Taxation), Vice minister of Yejo (Ministry of Rites) of Joseon.

Traces of Jeong Eon-seop still remain in various places in Busan including the Tomb of Imjin Dongnae Cemetry of Righteous Fighters and many more.

55 relics have been donated this time, including three textbooks containing the teaching papers appointed by Dongnae governor, "Yeongeuneojae" which contains poems written by Yeongjo, "Yeojesanghun," which Yeongjo bestowed on Jeong Eon-seop, and the genealogy of the Dongrae-jeong clan.

The Busan Museum said that when Jeong Han-sik, a resident of Cheongju, North Chungcheong Province, visited the Tomb of Imjin Dongnae Cemetry of Righteous Fighters in Dongnae-gu, Busan in April, he was moved by the culture and tourism commentator explaining his deep respect for Jeong Eon-seop.

According to the museum, he then donated the relics of Jeong Eon-seop as he was sure that it would be well preserved.
