DP leader calls for Yoon's apology, replacement of interior minister over gov't service disruption
SEOUL, Nov. 27 (Yonhap) -- Opposition leader Lee Jae-myung said Monday that President Yoon Suk Yeol should apologize for service disruptions in the administrative network earlier this month and replace the interior minister in charge of the matter.
The Democratic Party (DP) chairman made the remarks following the service crash of the Saeol administrative network, a system used by public workers to access government-approved documents, and the widely used online Government 24 portal on Nov. 17, due to suspected equipment failure.
"The president should apologize for the inconvenience caused to people due to complacent and incompetent government officials, as well as other damage caused by the administrative mismanagement," Lee said in a leadership meeting.
"Interior Minister Lee Sang-min should be immediately fired," he said.
The DP has described the service disruption as a "digital disaster" and said Lee should resign.
The ruling People Power Party (PPP), on the other hand, has argued the matter was a result of years of accumulated problems and called for the easing of regulations to allow IT conglomerates to participate in government projects.
