S. Korea, EU discuss N.K. spy satellite, space security
SEOUL, Nov. 29 (Yonhap) -- South Korea and the European Union (EU) have denounced North Korea's recent launch of a military spy satellite as a serious threat to peace and agreed to make efforts for a united international response to the provocation, Seoul's foreign ministry said Wednesday.
The two sides shared the assessment and commitment during the talks among Youn Jong-kwon, director general for nonproliferation and nuclear affairs; Marjolijn Van Deelen, EU special envoy for nonproliferation and disarmament; and Carine Claeys, EU special envoy for space, in Brussels on Tuesday (local time), the ministry said.
South Korea and the EU agreed to work closely together to strengthen the existing nonproliferation regime and make progress in discussions regarding the military use of artificial intelligence.
They shared each other's assessments and policy on space security and discussed efforts to advance related international rules to ensure a stable and sustainable space environment.
To this end, the two diplomats discussed the plan to launch a bilateral space security dialogue next year, the ministry said.
