BOK chief expects cooperation with China over indebtedness, aging population issues
SEOUL, Dec. 8 (Yonhap) -- The chief of the Bank of Korea (BOK) has said that he expects cooperation with China to address a series of economic and social issues, such as indebtedness and the aging populations facing the two nations, according to the central bank Friday.
In a speech Thursday to mark the 20-year celebration of the establishment of the BOK's office in Beijing, BOK Gov. Rhee Chang-yong also hailed the two countries' efforts to respond to economic risks, such as their bilateral currency swap.
"Over the past 20 years, bilateral trade has jumped sixfold, and financial connections and direct investment have also sharply increased," Rhee said.
The People's Bank of China Gov. Pan Gongsheng and Chung Jae-ho, South Korea's ambassador to China, were among the participants.
