SEOUL, June 19 (Yonhap) -- On Saturday afternoon, many K-pop stars performed at the “28th Dream Concert,” which was held offline in three years.
At the event held at the Seoul Olympic Stadium, a total of 27 singers appeared, including the popular girl group IVE, Red Velvet, Weeekly, CLASS:y, Lightsome, NCT Dream, and singer-songwriter Lee Mu-jin.
The Dream Concert, which started in 1995, is now in its 28th year. However, in 2020 and 2021, it was held online due to COVID-19.
"It reminds us of the time when we performed 'Ice Cream Cake' at our first Dream Concert in 2015,” Red Velvet, the “senior”' among the performers, said at the red carpet event. “We were wearing pastel colored clothes as we ran over the stage.”
“We really missed the cheers of the fans,” they also expressed their anticipation for the offline performance. "We hope the fans will not only sing but also dance along with us.”
"Today's choreography will probably be freestyle," NCT Dream also said, "We will dance according to the cheers of NCTzens (NCT dream fans)."
They also jokingly said to Hallyu fans around the world, "(The reason you have to travel to Korea now) is because NCT Dream is in Korea."
With K-Pop sweeping the world, the concert was broadcast live through various platforms around the world to countries including Thailand, Japan, Vietnam, Malaysia, the United States, Peru, and Brazil.
Prior to the event, from 4 p.m., the pre-event red carpet was held and the camera flashes did not stop.
In addition, various events including the karaoke booth experience, random play experience, and photo zone were held under the theme of “Falling for K-Pop in Korea” at Seoul Sports Complex Auxiliary Stadium.
The Korea Entertainment Producer’s Association and the Korea Tourism Organization, which hosted the event, thoroughly checked the use of masks, and had put in more security and safety than previous events.
"We wanted to revitalize the Korean performance industry, and provide lasting impressions and memories to K-pop fans around the world,” said Im Baek-woon, president of Korea Entertainment Producer’s Association.
