SEOUL, Mar. 7 (Yonhap) -- The Korea Cheerleading Association has signed a business agreement with the Korea Entertainment Producers Association (KEPA) for the upcoming International Cheerleading Union (ICU) World Cheerleading Championship that is scheduled to be held in Seoul in October, the Association confirmed Tuesday.

By inking this business agreement, the Korea Entertainment Producers Association’s Dream Concert and the opening show in Seoul for the 2023 ICU World Cheerleading Championship will be held in collaboration to promote the synergy effect between K-pop and cheerleading.

The ICU World Cheerleading Championship will be hosted in Seoul, welcoming more than 3,000 cheerleaders from more than 30 countries around the globe. The ICU, located in the United States, is the world governing body of cheer and has been hosting the World and Continental Championships since 2009.

The ICU and cheerleading at last earned full International Olympic Committee (IOC) recognition during the 2021 IOC Session held in Tokyo. Cheerleading also has the potential to be selected as a demonstration sport in the 2032 Brisbane Olympics in Australia.
