SEOUL, August 31 (Yonhap) --The Toji Cultural Foundation announced on Wednesday that it has appointed actor Yoo Jun-sang as the ambassador for the Pak Kyongni Prize, which celebrates its 11th anniversary this year.
Yoo Jun-sang met writer Pak Kyongni when he played Kim Gil-sang in SBS drama “Toji, the Land” in 2004.
Yoo Jun-sang said, “Pak Kyongni , whom I met while playing Gil-sang, was always in my head,” adding, “I promised myself that I would do anything If I have a chance to thank her one day, so I accepted the offer.”
The Pak Kyongni Prize, co-hosted by the Toji Cultural Foundation and Wonju, is a world literary award established in 2011 to commemorate the writer's spirit and achievements.
The event was held at the Wonju Land Culture Center annually, but the venue moved to Seoul. The awards ceremony will be held on Oct. 13, and celebratory performance will be held at the Wonju Baekwoon Art Hall on Oct. 15.
