SEOUL, Nov. 3 (Yonhap) -- EPL Tottenham Hotspur, South Korean football star Son Heung-min (29) including team, has confirmed Italian Antonio Conte (52), former coach of Inter Milan, as their new Head Coach.

“We are delighted to announce the appointment of Antonio Conte as our Head Coach on a contract until the summer of 2023, with an option to extend,” said Tottenham through their official website on the 2nd (KST).

Tottenham has appointed a new coach in one day of sacking their former coach, Nuno Espirito Santo.

The club welcomed coach Santo on June 30th but as Tottenham’s scores for 2021-2022 season stayed way below expectations, they decided to get him off the team on November 1st.

Tottenham is currently on 9th place for the season marking 15 winning points with 5 wins and 5 losses. They are on 3rd place in the UEFA Europa Conference League Group G and are on the verge of elimination.

Eventually, Tottenham decided to take measures amid the crisis. They contacted coach Conte whom they had considered as their coach candidate as well before appointing Santo and recently finalized the contract.

This is coach Conte’s return to the EPL in 3 years since his last duties for Chelsea in 2018.

Conte raised three Serie A winning Cups when he led Italy Juventus in 2011~2014 and served as commander for the Italian national team from August 2014.

Also he pushed England Chelsea to the top of the EPL for 2016-2017 season and was recognized as a winning coach for leading Inter Milan to triumph for Serie A 2020-2021 season.

“I am extremely happy to return to coaching, and to do so at a Premier League club that has the ambition to be a protagonist again. I can't wait to start working to convey to the team and the fans the passion, mentality and determination that have always distinguished me, as a player and as a coach,” the new head coach announced through Tottenham Hotspur’s official.

“Last summer our union did not happen because the end of my relationship with Inter was still too recent and emotionally too involved with the end of the season, so I felt that it wasn’t yet the right time to return to coaching,” explained coach Conte about the failure of him and Tottenham’s deal in June, according to Tottenham’s official website.

“But the contagious enthusiasm and determination of Daniel Levy in wanting to entrust me with this task had already hit the mark. Now that the opportunity has returned, I have chosen to take it with great conviction.”
