SEOUL, Nov. 2 (Yonhap) -- England’s professional football team, Tottenham Hotspur, including South Korean star player, Son Heung-min (29), has sacked head coach Nuno Espirito Santo (47 Portuguese) after 4 months of appointing.
The club delivered an official announcement regarding the news on their website on the November 1st (KST).
"I know how much Nuno and his coaching staff wanted to succeed and I regret that we have had to take this decision,” Fabio Paratici, Managing Director, Football said, according to Tottenham’s official website.
Santo signed a 2-year contract on June 30th and was appointed as Tottenham’s coach.
Starting with the club’s victory by 1-0 over Manchester City and for the EPL (England Premier League), the coach raised expectations by leading 3 consecutive wins. But for 7 subsequent games, Santo crashed to the ground marking 2 wins and 5 losses.
Tottenham is currently slacking as 9th placer for the EPL with 15 winning points.
The club has also plunged to 3rd place in the UEFA Europa Conference League Group G and is on the verge of elimination.
As for the next Tottenham’s coach, Italian Antonio Conte, former coach of Inter Milan, has risen to candidate.
He grasped three Serie A winning Cups leading Italy Juventus in 2011~2014 and pushed England Chelsea to the top of the EPL for 2016-2017 season.
He has coached Inter Milan since 2019 and relieved of his duties after forging a victory for the 2020-2021 Serie A.
BBC and Sky Sports are expecting that Hot Spurs may confirm a deal with coach Conte as early as on the 2nd and release an announcement of their new head coach.
Conte is known to have already arrived London on the 1st to talk with the club face-to-face and has been suggested an 18-month deal.
