SEOUL, July 25 (Yonhap) -- “Alienoid,” which was released on July 20, topped the box office for the first weekend of its release.
According to the Korean Film Council on Monday, director Choi Dong-hoon's new film “Alienoid” accumulated 630,000 audiences (32.3% of sales) for three days (July 22 to July 24) last weekend and topped the box office. The Hollywood animation “Minions 2,” which was released on the same day, followed by an audience of 599,000 (28.5% of sales).
Two movies accumulated audience numbers of 911 thousands and 832 thousands respectively.
“Top Gun: Maverick,” which was released more than a month ago, attracted 447 thousand audiences and ranked No.3, continuing a long run. The accumulated audience number surpassed 6.5 million.
Japanese movie “It’s a Summer Film” accumulated 5,400 audiences(0.3% of sales) in the first weekend of its release, ranking No.1 in Independent and art film box office and No.9 in overall box office.
“Hansan,” sequel of most watched movie of all time “Roaring Currents” (2014), accumulated 3,000 audiences (0.2% in sales) with just pre-premiere ahead of its release on July 27, ranking No.10.
