SEOUL, Feb. 17 (Yonhap) -- Members of K-pop bands are joining the ranks of South Korean celebrities who have been giving helping hands to those affected by the 7.8 magnitude earthquakes that shook Turkey and Syria.
According to the music industry on Friday, the mega-hit rookie girl group NewJeans, along with the group’s agency ADOR, made a donation of 200 million won to the World Food Program (WFP) to support earthquake relief activities in Turkey and Syria.
The donation will be used for the sake of residents who were affected by the earthquakes and are on the verge of facing food shortages.
“We have decided to make our donations in hope that it would provide even a little help and comfort for the victims of the earthquakes,” the quintet said.
Minnie from the hit girl group (G)I-DLE also donated 20 million won to the Hope Bridge Korea Disaster Relief Association. Earlier on the 14th of this month, Soyeon, another multi-faceted member from the same group, also made a donation of 20 million won to Hope Bridge.
Felix from the chart supremo Stray Kids also lent help by donating 50 million won to World Vision, an international relief and development organization. His donations are expected to be spent on various health projects, food, daily necessities, and temporary shelter support.
For this donation, World Vision named Felix as a member of the Vision Society, a group of high-value donors of this non-governmental organization.
