SEOUL, Dec. 21 (Yonhap) -- Ministry of Patriots and Veterans Affairs announced that the press conference of musical movie "Hero" which follows the true story of Ahn Junggeun, a Korean-independence activist, will take place at CGV Yongsan I'Park Mall.
Around 100 people including An Ki-young, granddaughter of Ahn's cousin, Ahn Junggeun Memorial Association, and bereaved families of independence patriots were invited to the preview. Park Min-shik, the minister of Patriots and Veterans Affairs of South Korea, will also make an appearance.
The movie delicately depicts Ahn's one-year history, from preparing a movement for Korean independence to his death.
Jung Sung-hwa, who took the stage as Ahn Junggeun in musical 'Hero' with his mesmerizing singing ability for about 10 years, will also take the role of Ahn in the movie.
Actress Na Moon-hee will take the role as 'Jo Maria,' mother of An Jung-geun and Ahn's emotional anchor, and Kim Go-eun as secret agent of an army for national independence 'Seol-hee' who risks her life to extract Japanese information.
Born in Hwanghae Province in 1879, Ahn assassinated Ito Hirobumi, former prime minister of Japan, at Harbin station. In front of Russian army who tried to arrest him, he loudly shouted "Korea ura" (Hurray for the independence of Korea) three times.
Ahn requested for rectification even during the testimony and trial, criticizing Japan's immoral act of aggression. Yet, he was sentenced to death on February 14, 1910 while claiming Korea's total independence and establishment of peace and sacrificed his life for the country on March 26 of the same year.
Park Min-shik said, "By watching the movie that sheds light on the patriotism of hero Ahn Junggeun, who tried to restore the stolen country, I hope this can be an opportunity to ruminate Ahn's spirite of sacrificing oneself to serve one's country."
