SEOUL, April 19 (Yonhap) -- Seoul Metropolitan Dance Theatre announced on the 19th that they will be performing "Ilmu" at the Sejong Center for the Performing Arts from 19th May till the 22nd of May.
"Ilmu" is based on the Jongmyo Jeryeak, a National Intangible Cultural Heritage and Masterpieces of the Oral and Intangible Heritage of Humanity. Jongmyo Jeryeak is a ceremonial music performed at the Jongmyo Shrine, where memorial tablets for the kings and queens of the Joseon Dynasty are enshrined.
In this performance, one will be able to the see the newly created dances including the court dance and the ilmu along with the Jongmyo Jeryeak.
In Act one, one will be able to see the new interpretation of Munmu (civil dance) and mumu (military dance), the representative dances of Ilmu, while maintaining the original choreography and formation. In Act 2, Chunaengjeon and Gainjeonmokdan are reinterpreted to show fast dance moves in intense music.
In Act 3, the modern dancers, Kim Seong-hoon, Kim Jae-duk and Jeong Hye-jin. art director of Seoul Metropolitan Dance Theatre will present a new choreography of "Shin Ilmu."
Not only is the Main Director Jung Gu-ho in charge of directing, but he is also directing the stage, costume, lights and props.
"Through the stage of the synchronized dancers, we hope that the tradition of Korea will find its spirit and allow the audiences of this era to relate and move forward together" said Jeong Hye-jin, art director and choreographer.
The tickets range from 30,000 won to 80,000 and can be bought at Sejong Culture Ticket.
