The National University Student Snow Sculpture Contest – one of the key events of the Taebaek Mount. Snow Festival – will start off with an orientation on Saturday.

A total of 10 teams will participate this year, including teams from Gacheon Univ., Kyung Hee Univ., Sungshin Women’s Univ., Shilla Univ., Ewha Womans Univ., Incheon Catholic Univ., and Chung-Ang Univ.

The teams will be competing over a total prize of 23.5 million won, and the award ceremony will be held at the Danggol Square also in the Taebaeksan Provincial Park on Jan. 20, with the submitted works of ice sculpture exhibited until Feb. 5.

The 30th Taebaeksan Snow Festival will be held for five days from Jan. 27th to 31st at the Taebaeksan Provincial Park, the riverside of the Hwangji Pond, and also at the Taebaek Culture Plaza.

The Snow Festival has been put on hold for three years as an aftermath of the COVID-19 pandemic. The Festival will be held under the theme of “The Strange Fairy Tale Village Taebaek” with various events including a supersized snow sculpture exhibition, a national snow sculpture contest, a Taebaeksan snow flower climbing contest, an igloo cafe, a snow slide, several cultural performances, along with a starlight festival.

An official from the Taebaek Cultural Foundation said on Wednesday, “The Taebaeksan Snow Festival is a festival where visitors can take a plunge into the charm of Taebaek, Korea’s most well-known winter city,” adding, “We would like to invite everyone to the Taebaeksan Snow Festival, a place full of fun, emotions, and joy.”
