SEOUL, Dec. 8 (Yonhap) -- Ryu Hyun-jin of Toronto Blue Jays is standing on the line between success and failure of 2021.

Since joining the big league, he has personally recorded the most wins but marked the most losses as well.

Ryu received the Special Player of the Year Award at the 2021 Cho-A Pharm. Pro Baseball Grand Prize ceremony (co-held by Cho-A Pharmaceutical and The Daily Sports) which took place at The Plaza Hotel in Sogong-dong Seoul Wednesday.

“I played full-time this year but there have been disappointments. Especially the ERA. But it is great finishing a season without a serious injury,” said the left-hander.

The South paw marked 4.37 ERA with 14 wins and 10 losses for this year’s MLB.

After during his days in Los Angeles Dodgers (2013~2014) and 2019, this is his personal fourth and the first in his Toronto days most victories record (14 wins). With the record he finished 2021 tied on the league’s 2nd place but the left-hander couldn’t satisfy with the other marks.

Ryu has lost 10 games, which is the most loss since his joining the league in 2013, and marked the worst ERA except for the 2015 season when he could pitch for only 1 game due to shoulder injury. The left-handy allowed 24 home-runs which is the most personal record for a season.

The South Korean pitcher scored quite a result at first marking 3.56 ERA with 8 wins and 5 losses. But from the second half he struggled marking 5.50 ERA with 6 wins and 5 losses.

In particular, in September when the team was fighting for the MLB Wild Card, he let down with 9.20 ERA and 1 victory, 2 losses for 4 games.

Toronto failed to advance to post-season.

“The American League has a designated hitter (unlike the Dodgers’ National League). It was hard that there is another batter,” said the former Dodgers’ pitcher.

Ryu who came back to Korea on Oct. 9 is doing personal training and taking care of his child.

“Parenting is always hard. I respect all the parents,” said the father.

But he gets energy from his daughter. And the Korean fans are a motivation to him.

“I want to fly to over 30 games with a well-built body next year as well. I will deliver frequent news of victories,” said the South Korean left-hand pitcher.
