Kyuhyun, Kim Sung-cheol join musical "Death Note"

SEOUL, Nov. 18 (Yonhap) -- Singers-actors Kyuhyun and Kim Sung-cheol will newly join the cast of the musical "Death Note," which has been running at the D-Cube Link Art Center in Seoul since last month.

The musical depicts the showdown between Light, a genius high school student who begins executing criminals after accidentally obtaining a death note that can kill anyone whose name is written in it, and L, a brilliant detective who tracks him down. It is based on the Japanese manga of the same name created by Tsugumi Ohba and Takeshi Obata and was first staged in Korea in 2015.

Kyuhyun will take on the role of Light, while Kim will play L. The production company said the new casting is intended to bring fresh energy to the long-running production.

Cho Hyung-kyun, who has been playing Light, will leave the show after his performance on Dec. 21, while Kim Sung-kyu, who plays L, will conclude his run on Jan. 4.

Kyuhyun will begin performing on Jan. 27, and Kim will join the production on Jan. 6. The musical is scheduled to run through May 10 next year.
