KBS’ “Gayo Stage” Celebrates 40th Anniversary With Veteran Singer Lee Mi-ja

SEOUL, Nov. 3 (Yonhap) -- Long-running traditional music program “Gayo Stage” is marking its 40th anniversary with a special appearance by legendary singer Lee Mi-ja.

 

KBS said Monday that it will air the “Gayo Stage 40th Anniversary Special” on its KBS 1TV channel.

 

Lee, known as the “Queen of Elegy,” will perform two songs, including her iconic hit “Camellia Lady.” Her daughter, Jung Jae-eun, will also return to the KBS stage for the first time in 12 years to perform “Three Hundred Li Hallyeosudo” and “Harbor.”

 

“‘Gayo Stage’ has provided a platform for younger singers to grow for four decades. I’m deeply grateful,” Lee said. “I hope the show continues for another 100 years so that more talented artists can flourish.”

 

The special lineup includes Yoon Hang-gi, Seo Yoo-seok, Kim Guk-hwan, Oh Seung-geun, Kim Soo-hee, Noh Sa-yeon, Choi Jin-hee, Sul Woon-do, Kim Yeon-ja, Jo Hang-jo, Jin Sung, Joo Hyun-mi, Jung Jae-eun, Joo Byung-sun, Park Hye-shin, Park Koo-yoon, Kang Moon-kyung, Ahn Sung-hoon, Yang Ji-eun, Kim Yong-bin, Ryu Won-jung, Bae Ah-hyun, and Jung Seo-joo.

 

Veteran anchor Kim Dong-gun will host the program, showcasing his seasoned chemistry with the senior singers.

 

The special will also feature former overseas construction workers and their families who attended a 1980s “Gayo Stage” event held in Libya during the country’s major infrastructure project.

 

The two-hour broadcast airs at 10 p.m. Thursday on KBS 1TV.
