SEOUL, Feb. 6 (Yonhap) -- The Fursuit Festival, titled “FurryJoa: Cyberfurry,” will be held at KINTEX in Goyang, Gyeonggi Province, on Feb. 11, FunzinnuMedia announced Monday.
The Festival will be a venue by which participants can show off their doll animal masks that they have uniquely crafted themselves; the Festival was first held in Feb. of 2020 in South Korea and will be holding its second festival this year.
The Fursuit Festival may look similar to a costume play, during which the participants are dressed up as characters in animes, games, or webtoons of their own choice; however, what differentiates the Festival from a costume play is how participants create their own characters and craft their own exclusive masks.
There are estimated to be more than 1,00 “fursuiters,” or people who wear fur suits, in Korea alone, despite the relatively expensive price of doll animal masks that usually go over 4 million won.
65 performers from 12 different countries around the world, including the United States, Japan, China, Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, France, Denmark, and Austria, will participate in the Festival.
Performances led by a Fursuit band, DJ, dance, and magic performers will also be held during the Festival.
