Lee Jung-seop Art Museum holds special exhibition 'The String of Heart'

SEOUL, July 15 (Yonhap) --In commemoration of the 20th anniversary of the opening of the Lee Jung-seop Art Museum, a special exhibition of the second part of the big donation, "The String of Heart" has opened.

Seogwipo City announced on Friday that the special exhibition "The String of Heart" will be held at the special exhibition room of Lee Jung-seop Art Museum until August 28.

In commemoration of the 20th anniversary of its opening, this exhibition was prepared as part of a four-part "big donation" exhibition series to focus on the history of Lee Jung-seop Museum of Art, which has developed through "donations."

The name of the exhibition "The String of the Heart" comes from the fact that "the love of donors is transmitted to all others through Lee Jung-seop Museum of Art." There will be a total of 36 works of painters including Jang Uk-jin, Song Young-bang, Kim Han, Park Go-seok, Park Soo-geun and Ko Young-woo.

The Lee Jung-seop Museum of Art started with Lee Jung-seop exhibition hall in 2002, and today, it has become a representative art gallery of painter Lee Jung-seop with 334 pieces including 60 original Lee Jung- Seop's paintings. This was only possible due to the donors' support, and through this exhibition, 5 donors with Shin Ok-jin and their donated works will be introduced.

The late painter, Song Young-bang had a fond heart for Lee Jung-seop as a painter himself, and in 2004 he painted and donated two portraits of Lee Jung-seop.

Painter Ahn Hyun-il donated a piece of his exhibition work after visiting Seogwipo to hold an exhibition at the Creative Studio of Lee Jung-seop Art Museum in 2013.

Seogwipo businessman Mun Hee-joong donated a piece of painter Ko Young-woo's work to Lee Jung-seop Art Museum in 2013, while director Kim Gi-ju of Kimhan art museum, donated two works of his father, Kim Han, as he cherished the relationship of him winning the 1995 Lee Jung-seop Art Award.

Busan Space Gallery CEO Shin Ok-jin visited the Lee Jung-seop Museum of Art in 2014 and then took the original photo of Lee Jung-seop, which was taken by photographer Heo Jong-bae, along with a poem by Kim Chun-su that mentions "Lee Jung-seop and Seogwipo," and 30 works related to Jeju Island, including the "Pig" by Jang Uk-jin. 

Among the collections of Lee Jung-seop Art Museum, donations amount to a total of 243 pieces, including 24 original paintings of Lee Jung-seop. 

Shin Ok-jin, CEO of Kongkan Gallery visited the Lee Jung-seop Museum of Art in 2014 and then donated 30 works related to Jeju Island including Lee Jung-seop's original photo taken by photographer Heo Jong-bae, a poem by Kim Chun-su that mentions "Lee Jung-seop and Seogwipo," and the painting "Pig," by painter Jang Uk-jin.

Among the collections of Lee Jung-seop Art Museum, donations amount to a total of 243 pieces, including 24 original paintings of Lee Jung-seop.

Through donations, Lee Jung-seop Art Museum was able to establish itself as an important cultural tourism resource in Seogwipo, and the "Good Donation" exhibition which focuses on the value and meaning of donation is planned to beheld in four series by the end of the year.

The exhibition can be viewed through on-site ticketing and can be viewed from 9 a.m. till 8 p.m. during the summer period (July to September) except for Mondays, as it closed.

"Meaningful donation provides an opportunity for citizens and tourists to enjoy culture and art, while also providing great value as it is a social return of works of art," said an official from Seogwipo city. "I hope one will think about this beautiful donation culture through this exhibition."
