SEOUL, June 9 (Yonhap) -- Jung Jae-il, music director behind Netflix's original series "Squid Game" and film "Parasite," has signed with the British record label Decca Records.
Jung will drop an international version of the album "Psalms" with the label on July 22, according to the Universal Music Group, Thursday.
Decca, a British label founded in 1929, is one of the most famous classical music record labels with Deutsche Grammophon, both under the Universal Music Group. Recently, the British label released OSTs for shows "Chernobyl" and the film "007 No Time to Die."
Jung will release a single "his days are like a passing shadow I" and the music video ahead of the upcoming album.
"Psalms" is an album by Jung released in February 2021.
The album, commissioned as a tribute to the 40th anniversary of the May 18th Democratic Uprising of Gwangju, is said to have been made to reflect on the lives of individuals, cries in the dark, and moments of truth.
In the new international version, which will be released next month, four songs will be included and rearranged for string ensemble.
Speaking about the contract with the label, Jung said, "I grew up listening to countless albums of Decca," adding, "I'm truly amazed that my music will join an archive filled with historical recordings from the legends."
Co-presidents of Decca label group, Tom Lewis and Laura Monks, said, "Jung's unique style and approach to composition makes his music more special," adding, "We now aim to amplify his work on a global scale."
Jung, who started music in the 1999 project group Gigs, is expanding his musical career in a variety of areas, including musicals, plays, dance plays, changgeuk (Korean traditional opera), and children's plays, as well as movies.
