SEOUL, Dec. 25 (Yonhap) -- Son Heung-min (29·Tottenham) meets the British actor Tom Holland and shares behind the scenes of the Burnley wonder goal.
Tottenham revealed the interview with Son and Holland on the Tottenham Hotspur YouTube channel, on Saturday (KST).
Tom Holland, the leading actor of “Spider-man: No Way Home,” said he is a big fan of Tottenham during a GQ interview in November. After Holland and Son met recently, the football player shared his joy of scoring in the English Premier League with a “Spider-man ceremony,” by pretending to shoot spider webs.
During the interview, Holland asked Son about the '70m Wonder Goal against Burnley’ in 2019, which won the FIFA Puskas Award.
Holland asked Son if he knew he was going to score when he first got the ball. The football player answered, “I tried to pass it. I was never gonna dribble past all the people there. After 2 seconds I was 1v1 with the keeper and I couldn’t believe it.”
The British actor also asked Son how many times he went back and watched the goal scene, and Son answered as he burst into laughter, “I don’t know. A lot. To be honest, I’ve lost count.”
Son’s goal scene against Germany at the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia was also mentioned during the talk.
South Korea, ranked 57th in FIFA World Cup, defeated the No.1 Germany 2-0 in the third Group F match, with Son scoring two goals.
Son explained, “It was a dream. Germany at the time was the FIFA ranking number one, so they were the best in the world. I was so proud.”
“I was nervous as well. I thought the ball was going out 100%. I was just sprinting and then I just literally tapped it in,” he added.
The British actor also asked Son how he began playing football.
Son, whose father is a retired football player, explained football was like a hobby but after he turned 10, he realized he wouldn’t be happy without it. He went to his dad and said, “Look I want to be a footballer.”
Son’s father told the future football star that it will be tough and asked if he wanted to still pursue it. Son agreed to chase his dreams and added, “I still kept doing hard work because one day it’s going to pay off.”
Son is now a “world-class player” praised by Tottenham Hotspur manager, Antonio Conte. The manager said that Son was “Not a good player — a top player."
Son also showed his respect to Conte in the interview that day.
During a Tottenham game, Conte always stands on the sideline and instructs the players without a break.
“He never sits down. I think as a player it’s really helpful, you know? He gives us passion when we’re tired or dead,” told the player about Conte.
