(LEAD) Yoon says N. Korea will face 'end of regime' if it invades South
SEOUL -- President Yoon Suk Yeol warned Wednesday that North Korea would face the end of its regime should it attempt to invade South Korea, while inspecting an annual joint exercise with the United States.
Yoon made the remark during his visit to the Ground Operations Command in Yongin, south of Seoul, where he received briefings on the Ulchi Freedom Shield. The joint military exercise began Monday for an 11-day run.

N. Korea's Kim apparently concerned about impact of flood damage on his leadership: Seoul
SEOUL -- North Korean leader Kim Jong-un appears to be shifting the responsibility for the latest flood damage to provincial officials on concerns that his leadership could be undermined amid increased public discontent, South Korea's unification ministry said Tuesday.
The Rodong Sinmun, the North's main newspaper, reported that Kim called for the country to consider a disaster prevention project as a grave issue related to the political ideology, not just as a struggle against nature.

Yoon pursues peaceful unification with N. Korea, not through military aggression: office
SEOUL -- President Yoon Suk Yeol's unification vision aims to achieve peaceful unification with North Korea in line with the principles of the Constitution, without resorting to military aggression, his office said Monday.
During a Cabinet meeting, Yoon elaborated on the freedom-based "unification doctrine" he introduced in his Liberation Day address last week, which updates the unification vision unveiled under the Kim Young-sam administration in 1994, a senior presidential official said.

(LEAD) Yoon calls for bolstering readiness against N. Korea's 'gray zone' provocations
SEOUL -- President Yoon Suk Yeol called for bolstering readiness against North Korea's "gray zone" provocations and hybrid warfare as South Korea and the United States kicked off their annual joint exercise on Monday.
Yoon said during a Cabinet meeting that this year's Ulchi Freedom Shield exercise will focus on integrating the allies' capabilities under various crisis scenarios to deter North Korea's evolving military threats, psychological warfare and cyberattacks.
