SEOUL, Jan. 31 (Yonhap) -- The following are the major cultural and tourist festivals to be held in South Korea in February.

* Yeongdeok Daege Festival

When: Feb. 29-March 3

Where: Yeongdeok, North Gyeongsang Province

Visitors will be able to catch, buy and eat "daege," or snow crab, at Samsa Marine Park in Yeongdeok, an eastern port city 238 kilometers southeast of Seoul. The ritual of praying for a good catch of daege will open the four-day festival. Other events include a street parade, various marine sports, and performances of modern and traditional music and dance. For more information, visit the website (https://crab.ydfesta.kr).

* Gangjin Celadon Festival

When: Feb. 23-March 3

Where: Gangjin, South Jeolla Province

Goryeo celadon is one of Korea's unique cultural assets and enjoys international acclaim. For those who want to see for themselves the secrets to making Goryeo celadon, a trip to Gangjin, the birthplace and a major production base of the pottery in South Jeolla Province, will certainly be a good experience.

Programs include workshops, exhibitions, performances of traditional and contemporary music, dances and other artistic genres, as well as do-it-yourself events. Visitors will have a chance to buy celadon works at discounted prices.

* Mount Taebaek Snow Festival

When: Jan. 26-Feb. 4

Where: Mount Taebaek National Park in Taebaek, Gangwon Province

Various events will be held in the highlands of Taebaek Mountain, 800 meters above sea level, during this 10-day festival. The program includes a snow sculpture competition for college students, snowsliding, hiking along snow-covered mountain paths and concerts. Super-size snow sculptures produced under various themes will be on display.

* Daegwallyeong Snow Festival

When: Jan. 27-Feb. 11

Where: Daegwallyeong in Pyeongchang, Gangwon Province

The Daegwallyeong Snow Festival offers lots to do, including making snowmen, top spinning and various traditional winter games, as well as exhibitions of snow and ice sculptures on the snow-covered hills of Daegwallyeong in Pyeongchang, Gangwon Province, a famous winter retreat.
