Justice ministry gives up appeal against court ruling on 2020 disciplinary action for Yoon
SEOUL, Dec. 29 (Yonhap) -- The Ministry of Justice said Friday it has decided not to appeal a recent court ruling that canceled a disciplinary suspension imposed on President Yoon Suk Yeol by the ministry while he was serving as prosecutor general in 2020.
The ministry said in a press notice that there are no grounds for an appeal against the Yoon-related ruling from the perspective of violations of the Constitution, laws, orders and rules, referring to the Seoul High Court's verdict made on Dec. 19.
The ruling came after the justice ministry then under Minister Choo Mi-ae suspended Yoon as prosecutor general for two months in December 2020, accusing him of violating political neutrality, obstructing a politically sensitive investigation and other misconduct.
In December 2021, the Seoul Administrative Court dismissed Yoon's administrative suit to repeal the disciplinary suspension. But the Seoul High Court struck down the 2021 decision and ruled in favor of Yoon, saying the disciplinary action was illegal because it violated the constitutional principle of due process and relevant laws.
