S. Korea delays spy satellite launch due to bad weather

SEOUL, Nov. 28 (Yonhap) -- South Korea's plan to launch its first military spy satellite has been postponed due to bad weather, the defense ministry said Tuesday.

The ministry said it has rescheduled the date to launch a spy satellite on a SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket from the U.S. Vandenberg Space Force Base in California to Dec. 2 from Nov. 30.

The planned launch is part of South Korea's project to send five domestically built reconnaissance satellites into orbit by the end of 2025 to better monitor North Korea.

North Korea launched its first spy satellite on Nov. 21 and claimed its satellite took photos of major military facilities in South Korea and the U.S. territories of Guam and Hawaii. It has not yet released satellite photos.
