SEOUL, June 10 (Yonhap) -- "Figure Skating Queen" Kim Yu-na is developing a product that will inform the world about the charm of the Korean traditional clothes, Hanbok.
According to the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism on the 10th, Kim Yu-na will be participating in the "Collaborative content planning and development project linked to Hanbok and Hallyu" along with the Korea Craft and Design Foundation.
Kim Yu-na will be planning and promoting a specific hanbok with 10 hanbok companies that will be selected through a public contest.
"Hanbok and Hallyu-linked collaboration content planning and development" is a project that promotes the appeal of Hanbok to the international community and overseas markets through the collaboration of Hanbok designers and Hallyu artists.
The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism expected Kim Yu-na, UNICEF's goodwill ambassador, to enhance the charm of hanbok.
"I am happy to have the opportunity to plan and develop a new product that expresses the beauty of hanbok, and actively promote the value and merits of our hanbok," said Kim Yu-na.
The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the Crafts and Design Foundation will be making a contest for hanbok companies to plan and develop hanbok products till July 1st.
It targets small and medium-sized companies in the hanbok field, and a total of 10 companies will be selected according to their expertise, differentiation, realization, and their expected effect.
The selected company must develop at least six hanbok designs tailored to Kim Yu-na's characteristics and plans while maintaining the composition and elements of hanbok. The production cost will be supported up to 25 million won and will also be provided with the opportunities to sell in the domestic and overseas markets through the hanbok online platform.
