SEOUL, July 22 (Yonhap) -- Singer and U.S.-based attorney Lee So-eun will return with her first album in 20 years, titled "Lee So-eun Siseon – Notes on a Poem," set for release on Tuesday.
According to her label, the new album is a collaboration with composer Rema (real name Kim Eun-seon), known for her work in children's music. Lee reinterpreted 12 poems from the collection "To My Little Giant" through her own emotional lens and vocal style.
The album also includes four bonus tracks, translated into English by Lee herself.
Lee participated as a co-producer on the album, aiming to deliver universal messages that can resonate across generations.
The album features the title track "Compass," as well as songs like "To School," which tenderly portrays the life of a grandmother who never attended school, accompanied by cellist Hong Jin-ho; "Said the Summer Apple," which expresses a wish for life to ripen like a summer apple; and "Seed," a hopeful song about life and growth.
"Compass" conveys a message of self-belief in the face of new beginnings, highlighted by a warm children’s choir.
Arrangers for the album include Choi Jin-kyung from the crossover band Second Moon, producer Yang Si-on, jazz pianist Nam Mea-ri, and producer Lee Ki-hyun.
Lee So-eun debuted in 1998 with her first album "Girl" and gained popularity with hits such as "You Resemble," "Kitchen," "My Lord," "Forever and Ever," and duet songs like "Miracle" and "Greedy."
After graduating from Korea University with a degree in English Literature, she pursued law in the U.S. and has since worked as a lawyer in New York.
"After my daughter was born, I began yearning for content that could positively influence her pure and flexible mind," Lee said. "I hope the album’s simple yet beautiful poetic expressions awaken sensitivity in children, soothe the emotions of teenagers, and serve as a medium of empathy for adults growing alongside them."
Lee will return to the stage for the first time in 13 years with a small-theater concert at Ewha Womans University’s Youngsan Art Hall on August 30.
