SEOUL, Oct. 7 (Yonhap) -- The South Korean won extended its gains against the U.S. dollar Wednesday, led by dollar sales by local semiconductor manufacturers.
The won was quoted at 1,340.4 won per dollar at 3:30 p.m., up 3.2 won from the close of the previous stock trading session.
At one point in morning trading, the won strengthened to a high of 1,337.6 per dollar, marking the strongest level since Sept. 10.
However, the won's gain was limited as foreign investors remained net sellers of local stocks.
Foreigners sold a net 2.6 trillion won (US$1.94 billion) worth of local shares during the latest regular trading session, with the benchmark Korea Composite Stock Price Index slipping 1.98 percent to close at 6,803.90.
