SEOUL, June 17 (Yonhap) -- “The Witch: Part 2. The Other One” and “The Roundup,” both sequels of a Korean series, are competing with one another at the box office.

“The Witch 2” attracted 177,000 viewers on Thursday and topped the box office once again following the day of its release on the 15th, according to data from the Korean Film Council.

This movie depicts a girl (Shin Sia), who comes out to the world after a secret laboratory collapses, and is pursued by the gang.

“The Roundup,” which has already been 5 weeks since its release, secured second place with 85,000 audiences on Thursday, surpassing Hirokazu Kore-eda’s “Broker” and Pixar’s new animation “Buzz Lightyear.”

“The Roundup” achieved 10.9 million in attendance and is likely to set the record of 11 million as of today.

“The Witch 2” took 34.9% in ticket sales as of Friday at 8 a.m., ahead of “The Roundup” (16.2%).

“Top Gun: Maverick” (Top Gun 2) has recorded over 100,000 presold tickets five days before its release, ranking No. 2 at the box office.

“Top Gun: Maverick” is a sequel to “Top Gun,” which made Tom Cruise a star in 1986. Cruise will arrive in South Korea today at 4 p.m. by a private jet and participate in the red carpet event and a press conference.

From “Buzz Lightyear,” to the Japanese thriller “Missing,” new movies have been released including “Gyeong-ah’s Daughter” which deals with digital sex crimes, and a rock climbing thriller “The Ledge.”
