SEOUL, July 29 (Yonhap) -- Geumcheon district, Seoul announced on Friday that it had opened an exhibition hall highlighting the history of Siheung Haenggung, which was an important place for King Jeongjo when he visited Hwaseong during the Joseon Dynasty.

Geumcheon district held an opening ceremony at Siheung 5-dong government complex on Thursday afternoon and opened the exhibition hall to the public.

Siheung Haenggung is one of the royal palaces built by King Jeongjo for the purpose of staying there whenever he visited Hwaseong, where his father, Crown Prince Jangheon (Prince Sado) was buried. However, today, the palace is gone.

The exhibition hall is located on the first and sixth floor of the Siheung 5-dong government complex. On the sixth floor, there is the exhibition room along with an observatory, while on the first floor, there is an archive room.

In the exhibition room, an immersive video room was installed so that visitors will be able to see and feel King Jeongjo's journey to Hwaseong and Siheung Haenggung vividly. Geumcheon district's efforts to restore Siheung Haenggung will also be seen.

In the archive room, one will be able to find materials related to the cultural heritage of Geumcheon district, including Siheung Haenggung.

On October, the exhibition hall plans to promote Siheung Haenggung by producing a road documentary featuring famous historical influencers in connection with the joint reenactment of King Jeongjo's tomb and will be screening it on YouTube, KTX, and city buses. Educational programs for children and adults will also conducted.

"We are carrying the projects one by one to emphasize the importance of the historic city Geumcheon, while also making the residents of Geumcheon proud" said Yoo Seong-hoon, mayor of Guemcheon district. "We will support the project until Siheung Haenggung becomes a landmark of Geumcheon."

The exhibition hall will be open from 9 a.m. till 6 p.m. on weekdays and from 9 am. to 2:30 p.m. on Saturdays.
