2 killed in apartment fire in Gunpo

GUNPO, South Korea, Jan. 2 (Yonhap) -- A fire broke out in an apartment building in Gunpo, just south of Seoul, on Tuesday morning, killing two residents, fire authorities said.

The blaze erupted on the ninth floor of the building located in Gunpo, about 24 kilometers south of Seoul, at 7:15 a.m.

Two people were taken to a hospital with severe injuries but died, officials said. They were identified as residents of the home where the fire started.

Police and fire authorities plan to look into the cause of the fire as soon as it has been put out, officials said.
