Up to 10 cm of snow forecast for Seoul

SEOUL, Jan. 8 (Yonhap) -- Heavy snow is expected across the country starting Tuesday, with Seoul forecast to receive about 10 centimeters, the state weather agency said Monday.

The Seoul metropolitan area and nearby regions are expected to receive snow from dawn on Tuesday through the morning, while snow or rain is forecast for areas south of the Chungcheong provinces starting Tuesday afternoon, according to the Korea Meteorological Administration.

The mountainous regions of Gangwon Province are forecast to receive over 20 cm of snow from Tuesday to Wednesday, and the inlands of Gyeonggi Province and parts of North Gyeongsang Province are likely to see up to 15 cm of snowfall.

While the temperatures will go above the levels of average years from Saturday, the weather agency warned of heavy snowfall during morning and evening rush hours in the capital area, and of icy roads formed due to a drop in temperature after the passing of the low atmospheric pressure.
