SEOUL, Dec. 17 (Yonhap) -- Park Chan-wook's satirical comedy "No Other Choice" has been shortlisted for the best international feature film category of the Academy Awards.

The Korean film will compete against 14 other films, including Jafar Panahi's "It Was Just an Accident" and "The Voice of Hind Rajab" by Kaouther Ben Hania, according to an announcement released Wednesday by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.

The final candidates will be announced on Jan. 22, and the awards ceremony will take place on March 15.

Based on the 1997 satirical thriller novel "The Ax" by American novelist Donald E. Westlake, the film follows the story of Man-soo (Lee Byung-hun), a desperate father of two who wages his own personal war for survival after losing his longtime job.

The film won the International People's Choice Award at the Toronto International Film Festival and competed for the prestigious Golden Lion at this year's Venice International Film Festival.

Earlier this month, the Golden Globes nominated the film for best motion picture in both the musical or comedy and non-English language categories. Lee received a nomination for best performance by a male actor in a motion picture in the musical or comedy category.
